How to Play Snake

Play Snake ↗

Game guide · HBCYGSL

Read before your next round of Snake

Read the aim of Snake, then make your first move. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Something to practise

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Making your moves

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Using the playing area

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A closer look at one example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Choose a deliberate next step.

An important reminder

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Compare the situation with the worked example. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
